Silkscreen print on paper

It’s Only Art is a CMYK layered screen print calling attention to the overthinking mind and the pressure that artists put on themselves to create. The phrase used was heard by Gala Jane and resonated instantly with her, both in a positive and negative way. She has changed the words slightly in the layers to add the doubt that comes with being an artist and living with anxiety. Taking inspiration from artists such as Christopher Wool and Ed Ruscha who use text in their work, Gala Jane aims to use the deliberate off-registered printing technique to emphasise the themes she has raised.

Year: 2019

Size: 800 x 600 mm

Exhibited:

“Northern Exposure Six” at Glasshouse Gallery, Port Macquarie in March 2020

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land in which I work, meet and create. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging and am mindful that this land always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
